"Experimental NZ hop Hort 9909 with classic Swiss lager strain S-189 combined with Gladfield and Voyager malts. It is a classic NZ Pilsner. Silver fern is the national symbol for our brethren over the ditch. So it was a no brainer to use this name given ferns (Giant Tree Ferns) grow happily here in the valley too. See a full description below."Currumbin Valley Brewing

The Dealers' Review

What are we getting? Caramel in colour, crisp and piney with soft hoppy aromas, but a nice big hop hit on the back palate. Lovely dry finish, typical of this style.

When to drink and what to pair it with? A crushable pilsner for hot weather, and day drinking. Pilsners are great beers for palate cleansing in-between some bigger numbers, but this one has enough backbone to stand up for itself if you just want to crush a few. Pair with some cheeses and jams and you’ve got yourself a party.

Who is this beer for? If you love pilsners (specifically the NZ variety), you’ll love this. If you’re new to pilsners (or never liked them but want to give them another shot), be aware that this one carries a fairly hefty hop profile (which we love). It’s still approachable, however, so we say dive right in!

Is this beer readily available?
It’s a newish release and brewed with an experimental hop (Hort 9909), so details are scarce on how available it will be, but as is the case with many of Currumbin’s releases, when they brew ‘em, we get ‘em! Keep an eye out on the shelves, but we’ll usually have some in stock.

Why do we like this beer? I’m a big fan of pilsners, because they’re easy drinking and crisp like your standard lager, but they’ve got a lot more going on and I enjoy the added complexity. This one’s an absolute ripper and you should drink it asap and often.

About the Maker

Our good mates Pete and Luke from Gold Coast's Currumbin Valley Brewing are two of the nicest people on the planet - and it just so happens they brew damn good (and fun) beer. They're famous for winning GABS Peoples Choice 2019 with their Grape Bubblegum Sour which instantly takes you back to the schoolyard - plus they know a thing or two about hops, stouts and sours. Keep an eye out for their farmhouse beers, which at the moment are few and far between, but they are👌.

Meet the Dealers

We’re Antoinette, Natasha, Matt and Simon. We’re good booze lovers just like you. We started our beery journey in 2013 when we opened the famous Brewski on Brisbane’s infamous Caxton Street. In 2018 we opened our first My Beer Dealer under Brewski, it’s one of the few drink-in bottle shops in Queensland and we’re super chuffed with it. 2020 was a big year for us, we launched our online store (you’re looking at it) and opened our second bricks ‘n mortar shop next to Eagle Junction station in Brisbane’s Clayfield (we’re super chuffed with it as well). Both of these have allowed us to complement our awesome beer range with our other passions of good wine and good spirits.

As we’re a small family run business we prefer to support other family businesses and small producers, ensuring that when you visit us it’s not the same old, same old. And by shopping with us we hope you get to feel good about supporting a whole heap of small businesses, just like we do. So if you do choose to buy through us, thank you from us and thank you from our family of suppliers (and thanks for reading this far, our copywriter is stoked).
